I am a 41-year-old male.  I was 221 pounds in May 2005.  Lost 43 pounds on a low-fat diet but gained 29 back once I started lifting weights.  Began carbohydrate restriction in January, 2007.  Kept carbohydrates at 30 or less and lost 22 more pounds.  I began to eat zero carbohydrates in the Fall of 2007 and I weighed 164.  My total weight loss was 77 pounds.

I began this blog and my zero-carb discussion forum in October of 2008. 

I run many races throughout the spring and summer. Check out my 2009 Running Schedule, (with links to results) my personal journal for information on my experiences as a runner, and check out my blog for my take on current issues from a zero-carb perspective.  I routinely post new pictures of myself on my zero-carb discussion forum.

This blog and my forum all run on internet sites that are “ad free.”  It thrives on the generous voluntary donations of those who support the zero-carb lifestyle.  If this blog helps you in your quest for good health then you can make a donation here by clicking the icon below.     I find your site a bit puzzling.

    You seem to have no idea that I exist, and yet you have taken on, almost word for word, my entire lifestle, from my 50 years on total meat to my method for running. (the mammalian leg is not designed to land on the ‘heel’ when running- a simple matter of the common anatomical structures involved. The key is the strength of the calf musculature.

    And yet you claim to be a very recent entrant into the zerocarb diet, one I discovered in 1958.

    i foolishly ran a thread on lowcarber.org titled ‘The real human diet is a totally carnivorous one’ The truth, and instead of providing a bit of hel and enlightenment to those intersted, I would up having massive attacks on my integrity and honour- frompeople who were mental cases, food-obsessors- way beynd the socialisation lockup. After about 15000 hits in about 6 weeks, I gave it away. EVERYTHING I had to say was in my introduction.

    I enclose my simple rules, which are all anyone needs to eat properly and the enjoy the food.

    I ceased the eating of all vegetation in October 1958

    Here are some SIMPLE rules (for a carnivore in a hostile social environment.)

    You don’t need recipes, the food is too simple.

    Only cook your food rare, eat plenty of fat, no salt, drink water.

    SEVEN SIMPLE RULES FOR THE HUMAN CARNIVORE

    1) Eat only from the animal world (eggs, fish, redmeat and fowl and some dairy are all animal sourced foods, i.e.: meat).

    2) Eat nothing from the vegetable world whatsoever. (Very small amounts of flavourings such as garlic/chillies/spices/herbs which may be added, are not ‘food’).

    3) On diary: avoid milk and yoghurt (heavy carbs- lactose), use only pure (not ‘thickened’- heavy) cream (read the label), cheese and unsalted butter.

    4) Don’t cook your meat very much- just a little bit on the outside- for flavour- blood-rare or bleu. For this reason I advise against eating pork.

    5) Eat liver and brains only very infrequently- they are full of carbs.

    6) Be sure to have plenty of fat of animal origin at each meal and eat mostly of the fat until you feel you have had enough- you can eat more lean at this point if you like- calories are not important, nor is the number of meals/day. Vegetable oils are not good food.

    7) You do not need any supplements of any kind. Drink a lot of water and do not add salt to anything.

    That is all there is to it.

    DO NOT obsess over what you eat, follow the rules and it will become second nature, and you will not have to think about it at all. What you eat is a social conditioning, most people will never alter their diet from what their mum fed them as babies, only those rare individuals who have a strong will and desire for a normal-sized, healthy body can do it. Even the grossly obese have trouble with my path. You may feel low on energy for a few days or weeks, but as soon as you keto-adapt to zero-carbs that will pass and your energy will be increased.

    I actually have heard of you, albeit after I was fairly far along on my own journey. The members of my forum have spoken often of you and provided me with a copy of the thread that you ran. By the time I read it, I was already in the process of trying to discover that which you already know. Someone provided me with a copy of Not By Bread Alone and just like you, it changed my life. I have always been amazed at the parallels and I am an enormous admirer of your work.

    I learned the running technique from Gordon Pirie and that was another life-changing event for me.

    On my forum, http://www.zerocarbage.com, I do indeed feature many of your quotes and words and answers to questions. I have supplied the users there with a link that allows them to read your thread and the users who have been e-mailing you typically share your responses to them on my forum. I invite you to come over and have a look. I think you would be very much at home there, should you choose to. I could even put you to work if you so chose! (Smile)

    I understand that your participation in the thread caused you a great deal of distress so I have resisted the urge to reach out to you as I did not want to disturb you. You should know that I have the utmost respect for you and your work and I hereby extend an invitation for you to write any guest articles on this blog if you would like. Moreover, our forum is open to you as well. We have over 150 members and the majority are finding great success on this regimen. Of course, many struggle as well just as you predicted they would.

    My only goal is to renew Stefansson’s arguments that he made back in the 1920s and also to highlight your life as you are the best example known to us of someone who has lived this lifestyle for over 50 years.

    I found your thread on that other internet forum just after you left, and it made a huge difference for me. It was then that I stopped ‘dieting’ and started just eating. You were treated with enormous disrespect by many people there, but I want you to know that some of us really valued your information and experience, and appreciated your efforts. Thanks!
